This irregular verbs worksheet helps students master verb tenses using 37 of the most common irregular verbs.
Designed for grades 4–8, this resource supports students in learning past tense and past participle forms through clear examples and guided practice. Printable PDF – great for quick review or ongoing reference.
CONTEXT:
Irregular Verbs are the ones that don't follow the rule of adding "D" or "ED" to the end to show the past or Past Participle tense. (Reminder: Past participle Tense happened more than once in the past, and has the word have, has, or had in front of it.)
Many of the most common verbs in English form their past and past participle tenses in irregular ways. Examples include: go, went (have) gone; see, saw, (have) seen; give, gave, (have) given; fly, flew, (have) flown, and more.
Irregular Verbs just have to be learned. However, the good news is that there are only about 35 or 40 that are COMMONLY used, and some of these will already be well known to many of your students. This colorful study sheet shows the most common verbs, with correct forms, and example sentences used. We recommend that students highlight the ones of which they are not totally sure, and study those in order to remember them.
This is a great study sheet for upper elementary or junior high students who are still shaky on their irregular verbs.
